Language Arts Reflections

Robert Tousignant

I have chosen my fiction story for my portfolio. When starting my fiction story I had to learn how to think as a fiction writer would think. I first asked myself, “What books do I wish existed in the world?” This question led me to inventing a main character with traits, struggles, and actions. I then wrote about an issue that is important to the main character and created a character who struggles with the issue. I needed to know the characters motivations and struggles. I finally created the characters internal and external traits.
To write the fiction story I first needed to outline my story with a story map. I would then start to write about the main characters and make sure my reader can picture the setting. I let the reader know what the character wanted and the obstacles that stood in his/her way. I then included dialogue to show what the characters are doing. Then I wrote small moment after small moment that lead to the turning point in the story. In the end I resolved the story so there were no loose ends.
When I was writing my fiction story, there are some things that I thought I did well and some things that I would do over again. In the beginning of my story I did not show that one person was related to the other which was important to the story because they are the two main characters. Towards the end of my story I did not tell that the character’s home where he used to live was blown up by a bomb. In my fiction story I needed to edit my piece more because I found words repeated, words spelled wrong and sentences that did not make any sense.

I chose my fiction story for my reflection because I think it is the best piece that I wrote.
